A friend of mine,
Just got a brand new Retevis RT8 (same as MD 390) and noticed that on RX, the radio seems deaf as a doorknob, even though the gree RX light comes on. TX does not seem to be affected.
Here´s a video that demonstrates de problem:

I recommended a firmware upgrade (currently it´s V2.034) to see if it solves the problem but I´m unsure if we can proceed with the upgrades meant for the MD-380 or not. Looking at the messages here and on other sites, it seems to be the case but I´d appreciate if someone could confirm that.
ReplyDeleteMeanwhile, he is contacting the seller to see if this can be solved thru that channel.
Does it hear when expected? Can it talk to radios on the same repeater and talk group ? Can you hear anything?
ReplyDeleteRemember, a Talkgroup may be in use by others and you would need to be on that channel to hear anything. My understanding is that the green light shows the repeater is "in use", but the Retevis does not show what Talkgroup is active. If you have a MonitorAll Talk Group pointing to a Scan List that has all of the repeaters Talk Groups in it, then it will show the active one otherwise you just see a green light.
It may simply be a programming issue.
Thank you for the replies, so far. We looked into the settings, like code plugs and so on and nothing seems to be out of the ordinary there.
ReplyDeleteThe manufacturer sent a somewhat cryptic message, it seems that there´s some kind of deviation adjustment but it makes no sense on how to get there:
"1. Which frequency do you use?
2. pls change channel mode to simulation mode, and then try to talk with RT3.
3. if you still can't, pls under the simulation mode, and adjust the frequency turn up 10MHZ or turn down 10MHZ., and check whether it is still same problem.
I am waiting for your reply.
I can reply you tomorrow.
it is 6:00pm in China.
I am so sorry for the inconvenience."
10Mhz adjustment? lol!
We are going to try 10hz in the test mode. Will report back but I´ve told my friend to go ahead and ask for another radio.
If you don't have the codeplug correct it will do that, as the radio has no idea when to break squelch. It might hear a signal, but it's not like an analog radio, where you can turn down the squelch and hear anything on that frequency. It's like if you get the PL tone wrong, and won't hear what's on a repeater frequency because the squelch won't open until the PL matches what it's hearing.
ReplyDeleteAnytime I've had that problem, there was something goofy with my codeplug. Typically, the timeslot was wrong for the talkgroup I was trying to hear.
